Alpha
Alpha is a ten-week opportunity to explore and discuss the basics of Christianity. The Alpha course is enjoyed and appreciated as much by those who never set foot in a church as it is by those who once attended, and also by those who are regular churchgoers. No matter what their background, whether investigating Christianity for the first time or revisiting their faith, participants always seem to get a lot out of an Alpha course. Over one million people in America and Canada have already participated in an Alpha course. Over 5,000 Alpha courses are currently running in the United States alone!
Each week, people meet together for dinner and discuss topics such as:
~Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can I be sure of my faith?
~Why and how should I read the bible? Why and how do I pray?
~How goes God guide us? How can I resist Evil? Does God heal today?
In addition to the ten weekly sessions, there is a Weekend Retreat (Friday evening/Saturday morning-afternoon) that deals specifically with questions involving the Holy Spirit; "Who is the Holy Spirit?" "What does the Holy Spirit do?" and "How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?"
A typical evening consists of dinner (free will donation only) served at 6:00 pm, followed by Praise and Worship music at 6:45 pm. At 7:00 pm, the talk for the evening's topic is presented (via DVD presentation), and at 8:00 pm small group discussions to discuss the evening's topic begins. The session concludes at 9:00 pm. Each evening provides a great opportunity to talk in an informal, friendly, and non-threatening environment!
